This week I decided to start charging my phone either before I fall asleep or when I wake up. Before I would charge my phone all night while I slept even though it only takes about an hour. It was a minor change in my daily routine but I know that by doing this I will save a significant amount of energy.

This week I began to consciously switch to washing my clothes in cold water. It gives me great hope to know that a little change such as this one can have such a big impact on the world. Knowing now that washing all loads of laundry can save 1600 lbs of CO2 each year, I do not see myself washing any more loads with hot water.

Over the weekend I challenged myself to eat at least one meal a day outside. At first I thought it would be easy but by the time the weekend rolled around I noticed how much I depend on the ease of eating on the go or staying in my normal routine such as eating in the cafeteria or inside. I did complete this challenge successfully in the end it just did not come as natural as I thought it would have.

Today I chose to start challenging myself to write down three things I am grateful for each day. Today I started as I was doing homework and the first three items that came to mind were nature, clean drinking water and this school's campus. Immediately after I wrote those three items down I understood the long term goal that I had for myself. By participating in this challenge, I hope to become more aware of things that appear in my day to day life that I might normally take for granted. By doing so, I would then like to begin educating myself of ways I can better care for those items, such as my clean drinking water or my school's campus.

Yes! Practicing gratitude is a wonderful discipline. A good book related to this is A Thousand Gifts. This can transform how we experience life!
