Anna's Actions
Waste
BRING MY OWN CUTLERY FOR LUNCH
I will bring my own reusable cutlery for lunch at school rather than use disposable ones.
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 20 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 10 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.
Simplicity
Easy Meditation
Whether I am either at ISB or at home, every time something goes wrong or somebody / something is annoying me I will try meditating to calm myself down.
Nature
Watch a Documentary on nature
I will watch a documentary on nature, the ocean (or anything connected to animals, wildlife, and trees.) And then research how to help our planet
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 15 minute(s) each day.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Participate in Walk for Water - Mon, April 18th
The Community Service Committee and the 2nd grade classes will be hosting Walk for Water on Monday, April 18th, after school (3:30-4:30pm). By participating, students can become more aware of the burden that limited access to water can have on people's lives. According to a UNICEF estimate, for example, in Sub-Saharan Africa households in rural areas must walk on average 33 minutes to collect water; in Asia, 21 minutes. Click "Learn More" below to find the registration and fundraising forms.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 4 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Waste
aNY Bag Project single use plastic collection
I will bring in collected single use plastics for aNY Bag Project to ISB to help re-purpose single use plastics into reusable bags, reduce plastic waste in my community, school and a % of proceeds are contribute to City Parks Foundation to help keep our local parks maintained.

Reflection QuestionWaste BRING MY OWN CUTLERY FOR LUNCHremember to place a sticker on the tree at ISB so that we can all watch the tree bloom as we avoid disposable cutlery!
Anna Crasny 4/22/2022 6:19 PMYeah, I LOVE putting the stickers on the tree it looks very nice and pretty. -

Reflection QuestionNature Do Nature ActivitiesWhat did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?
Anna Crasny 4/22/2022 6:15 PMAt the beginning, you're like "huh, nothing interesting out here" but then you realize how nature is important to you and how you are important to protect it. -
Reflection QuestionAction Track: Building Resilience Participate in Walk for Water - Mon, April 18thPlease share one way in which you think your life would be different or that you would do differently if you had to walk 20-30 minutes to collect water, rather than open a tap.
Anna Crasny 4/22/2022 6:11 PMWell it's a total process. If you walk thirty minutes collecting and giving water it impacts everybody's life because, without water we wouldn't be able to live and hydrate ourselves. -
Reflection QuestionEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Anna Crasny 4/21/2022 5:50 PMFirst, turn of all lights and electronics when you're not using them, also, you can walk by foot instead of going in a car, I could make posters as well and you can do more research on how to help our sweet planet Earth. -
Reflection QuestionAction Track: Building Resilience Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Anna Crasny 4/21/2022 5:44 PMBecause, if we don't have pollinators, the plants wouldn't be able to grow well. -
Anna Crasny 4/21/2022 5:40 PMDid you guys know that if we win the Eco Challenge we win a pizza party.👐 -

Reflection QuestionSimplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm RoomHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?
Anna Crasny 4/20/2022 5:42 PMSo, first, you could donate your clothes or anything you don't need and you can also try only buying things that you need
