I think I am doing alright, just need to be more active on this website.

My campus ecochallenge is going alright. I definitely need to learn to be more active so that my team gets the points we need. I still do sustainability practices regardless of checking in and that is the goal of this program.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Take Control
How do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?

    Jon Vincent De Leon's avatar
Jon Vincent De Leon 10/27/2022 3:53 PM
They intersect at the point in which my personal activities start to blend with community and environment. For example, I drive. That affects the carbon footprint of my community and environment.

How do you practice self care?

I have this little checklist that I made that makes sure I do everything I need that is important to my self care. I also think the day before about the meals I will be having for the next day.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

Jon Vincent De Leon 10/27/2022 3:51 PM
I sleep a regular 4-5 hours daily. Part of it is my responsibility of running my own care home. I'd like to shift it by being more productive about my day so that I'm not trying to cram everything at night.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Jon Vincent De Leon's avatar
Jon Vincent De Leon 10/27/2022 3:50 PM
It's not sugar in particular that I was addicted to... it was products that were high in sugar that I liked. It did give me those "rushes" throughout the day and then by 7 in the evening, I'd be out like a light. When I reduced the amount of sugar I was consuming, I was able to build up my natural energy and it's made me feel better throughout the day.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

The practice of gratitude keeps me positive and brings this "productive" attitude about each day that helps me focus on what I need to do. It brings me higher energy levels to want to workout and create a healthier life for myself. It brings me energy to want to walk around instead of driving. It encourages me to do more productive activities around the house such as bringing out the recycle items.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    Jon Vincent De Leon's avatar
Jon Vincent De Leon 10/27/2022 3:46 PM
This does surprise me... food is something I was taught to never take for granted. You buy what you know you will finish because you can always buy more after. I would rather see the money dedicated toward improving farms or saving to buy electrical vehicles to reduce our footprint.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

This definitely makes me feel more organized with my life. Having everything come in electronically makes it easier to know where my stuff is going without being all over the place. The next step will probably be to cycle through the mail I have and sort important and not important, then recycle what I can.
  • Reflection Question
    Water Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Jon Vincent De Leon's avatar

We can turn off the water in areas of the house that are not frequently occupied. We can also flush only when necessary to reduce water usage. Change the settings on washing machines so water isn't wasted. Put a timer to reduce shower time.
