Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Storm runoff carries pollutants such as nitrogen and phosphorus into our waterways, resulting in eutrophication and habitat loss throughout a watershed from tributaries to rivers and estuaries. Burning of fossil fuels increases the amount of C02 taken up by the ocean, causing it to become more acidic. Many species are unable to adapt to such low pH.

Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

With waste management systems like garbage trucks picking up our trash and recycling, it's easy to develop an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality and disregard our waste's impact. I'm now more conscious what I buy and consume to minimize waste I generate.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

People in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places because they can afford it. Higher meat demand leads to destruction of habitat from agriculture requirements for livestock feed as well as less crop yields for those in need.
