  • Reflection Question
    Community Engage In Active Listening
What was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?

I realized that eye contact and turning my phone upside down helped me actively listen to someone. By doing this, I felt like my friend was able to see that I was engaged in our dialogue and for me, it was beneficial because I was able to completely understand her story without asking her to repeat some information.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Car Share
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (school, work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I do not have a car and so I always carpool with them to go to the grocery store or target.
  • Reflection Question
    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

I found a new hiking trail behind Gracies while helping my friend with her photo project. It made me realize the more I am outside, the more opportunities I will find to enhance my physical activity which also elevates my brainpower.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Mindfulness Practice
What best helped you with your Mindfulness Practice? How does Mindfulness keep you grounded and sustain your work with compassion?

The "breathe" app on my apple watch and meditation helped me with my mindfulness practice. It helped ground me because I found inner peace while doing these exercises. I realized that amidst  my hectic lifestyle, I need a moment of rest to recharge my social battery to stay motivated and mindful to myself and others.
  • Reflection Question
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

I recently found a hiking trail behind Gracies and decided to go on a walk with my friend. As we walked, I acknowledged the beauty of fall and fresh air, something I hardly notice during most of my days. When walking on campus during week days I only notice bricks, but this opportunity made me realize the inner beauty of our campus when we go out and seek it.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Track my Purchases
What have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?

I have noticed that I buy a lot of fast fashion items to reward myself. This feels good in the moment, but I find myself struggling to organize my items. I think by tracking my purchases, I should shift more towards what I need vs. what I want. Recently, instead of buying a pair of boots, I bought two new books. This taught me that I should be more mindful of what I spend my money on (something that will benefit my mental and emotional health, not materialistic items).
  • Reflection Question
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Annie Hong's avatar
    Annie Hong 11/06/2022 7:36 PM
By writing 5 things I am grateful for everyday, I think I became more appreciative of the small things such as feeling the sun outside, having a conversation with my friends, etc.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Annie Hong's avatar
    Annie Hong 11/06/2022 7:36 PM
I think before this challenge I was moderately "addicted" to sugar. After cutting out a couple of snacks, I feel less guilty about what I eat.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

    Annie Hong's avatar
    Annie Hong 11/06/2022 7:35 PM
Usually during the school day I get around 4 hours of sleep, but this weekend, I doubled it by getting 8 hours of sleep on Saturday and Sunday. I've noticed a big chance in my energy and ability to be productive which I would like to see during the weekdays too. It seems impossible to get 8 hours of sleep during school days and so I will strive to get 6 hours of sleep to increase my productivity and concentration.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

    Annie Hong 11/01/2022 9:27 AM
I noticed that time off of social media has given me more time to focus on what is important. During my social media breaks, I was able to read a book and call my family which benefitted my mental health significantly.
