I like doing the ecochallenge with my school. I can see that my actions in my home or community can make a difference. Seeing the totals on the team board was good to see that as a school we did a big impact in just 2 weeks! I hope it doesn't stop.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Launch a Recycling Program
How might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?

It was great learning about different companies that are taking steps to be responsible about their products from the beginning of design.
  • Reflection Question
Waste aNY Bag Project single use plastic collection
How much single use plastic do we use in my home in 1 week?

I am not sure but I did see that a lot of our food comes in plastic. Bread, fruit mostly. We can be more conscious of the food we buy and how it is wrapped.
  • Reflection Question
    Community Support Native Communities
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Balance is important to maintain being happy and healthy. Like when I organize my time between school and play. In my community I see there needs to be more of a balance with how garbage and recycling are being done. Around the world I think more businesses need to find ways to make things in ways to not harm the earth.
  • Reflection Question
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

I notice the environment more and see places where things are nice but also places where things could use help. If I am in the car with my parents it's usually on the highway so it is going too fast to really see details like that.
  • Reflection Question
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

When I counted our single use plastic for the aNY Bag Project collection, I saw that a lot of the plastics came from foods I like to eat. Apples, Bread, berries. I think we can do better by picking ones that are not in packing and maybe bring our own bags to gather fruit in.

It may not feel like it but, staying home for learning is helping keep our community healthy and safe! It is hard but you are doing great!
  • Reflection Question
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Rosa K's avatar
    Rosa K 3/01/2021 1:21 PM
You can express yourself through art, like if you took some of your old clothes and made yourself   something new out of the old, like a collage or a quilt.
