  • Reflection Question
Water Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
What is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?

The main water source in my region is the Potomac River.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

My top core values are community, reciprocity, and integrity. I chose these because they are the main points I try and center my life around.
  • Reflection Question
Simplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?

    zoe klausner's avatar
    zoe klausner 1/31/2023 6:59 AM
Before buying anything, I can ask myself if it's a need or a want.
  • Reflection Question
Simplicity Go For A Daily Walk Outside
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

Taking a walk each day allows me to be more present with myself. I'm able to take stock of all the many things going on in mine life and have an internal dialogue about how I feel and form my own opinions.

I'm with you--I love taking walks because they allow my mind to either be quiet, or thoughts run through without their usual filter.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

On campus, the coffee shops I use don't let you fill up using a mug or travel cup. At other places, it can feel awkward to make the request to use your reusable mug when the standard is plastic.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Disconnect from Email
Notice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?

    zoe klausner's avatar
    zoe klausner 1/25/2023 2:25 PM
When I'm not checking my phone, I'm able to be more present with the people around me.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    zoe klausner's avatar
    zoe klausner 1/24/2023 5:26 AM
I think "reduce" is the ultimate 'R' because the main issue creating our need to recycle, repair, and repurpose (which are all good things too) is overconsumption. I can reduce by looking in my closet and appreciating what I have when I'm considering buying a new piece of clothing.

I joined the eco-challenge because I like to think I'm a relatively environmentally conscious person, but there are so many aspect of my daily life that I don't even think about their effects on the world around me. Engaging in the challenge will make me a more aware citizen of the planet.
  • Reflection Question
    Water Use Reusable Bottles
What are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?

    zoe klausner's avatar
    zoe klausner 1/23/2023 10:34 AM
Water allows me to bathe, clean my clothes, cook my food, and hydrate my body.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Less Screen Time
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

One way I spent time not on a screen was going on a walk.
