  • Reflection Question
Create Your Own Action Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations are just a few examples. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

    Rylee Mory 5/03/2020 9:52 PM
I think foraging is a really cool and unique way of collecting food. I think it connects individuals more with nature because it shows you the exact source of your food, and has you do the physical work of collecting it yourself.

To what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 5/01/2020 4:23 PM
I believe environmental factors greatly contribute to our personal health. Omitting toxic chemicals or unneeded additives from our daily use and/or diet can greatly sustain our health, and be cheaper too!

How do you practice self care?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 5/01/2020 7:30 AM
I believe the greatest way to practice my personal self-care is by taking care of my body and mind. This includes exercise, eating right, self-reflection, and maintaining check-ups such as doctor and dentist appointments.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 5/01/2020 7:28 AM
Meals with red meat or just meat, in general, tend to be more expensive, which is something I've noticed while shopping on a budget for myself. Eating more meat increases meat consumption and places issues that affect global warming from the animal industry. Eating a few meatless meals a day or week can greatly decrease this!
  • Reflection Question
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 5/01/2020 7:24 AM
I now currently get on average around 7.6~8 hours of sleep a night. I believe this is a good amount to be aiming for, but I would like to shift my sleep schedule towards an earlier time. While I usually fall asleep around 1am/2am now, I'd like to try falling asleep sooner.
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Online Energy Audit
What most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint? What changes did you make or will you make?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 4/22/2020 11:33 AM
I was surprised at how low-energy my current house is. The house is multi-unit, and built in 1885, so I thought it would be much more energy consuming than the Home Energy Review indicated.

  • Reflection Question
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 4/21/2020 6:15 PM
If I do not have a reusable bag with me, I choose to either carry items in my hands if there are not many or opt for a paper bag at stores. At my house, we keep reusable bags in our coat closet by the front door, so that if someone is leaving for a store they are readily available.

What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 4/21/2020 6:12 PM
I'd like to invest more time reflecting on how I organize my free time, and how to make it more productive.
  • Reflection Question
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

    Rylee Mory's avatar
    Rylee Mory 4/21/2020 6:07 PM
I really enjoy pickled foods. This week I have learned how to preserve foods through pickling myself, and have made pickled beans, onions, eggs, and cucumbers.
