  • Reflection Question
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

I think it can definitely be easier and more convenient to buy coffee in a plastic cup from anywhere on campus. It's much more difficult to make a conscious effort to either bring a reusable cup to a coffee shop, or make coffee yourself using a reusable mug. It definitely takes conscious effort to make the switch, but understanding the impact of doing can be a good source of motivation.

I think some of the Corp locations give you a discount if you bring a reusable mug, which is a great incentive!
  • Reflection Question
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I think one really creative way to do this is re-purposing items that one already has. It is interesting to think about ways to bring old trends to life
  • Reflection Question
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I definitely find myself reaching for plastic bottles when I'm somewhere they are easily accessible. For me, it's been most useful to carry around a bag with me wherever I go so that I can keep a reusable bottle it. Sometimes, it feels more inconvenient, but overall I know it is much more sustainable.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

I think creativity is necessary for practicing simplicity because in order to make the best of a little, you have to think outside the box and approach challenges with an open mind. Creativity helps you do this
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Use an Energy Meter
How can you make your dorm room, apartment, or house more energy efficient?

    Mira Patel's avatar
    Mira Patel 3/01/2023 1:46 PM
I think a really easy way to do this is just remembering to turn off all lights and running water from the sink when you are not using them. Sometimes when I'm leaving the room I forget to turn off my mirror light which is definitely something I need to work on.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Car Share
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (school, work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Mira Patel 2/21/2023 11:35 AM
Instead of having my parents drive me back to school from the long weekend, I car pooled with my friend. This saved up to 4 hours on the road.
  • Reflection Question
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Mira Patel's avatar
    Mira Patel 1/23/2023 6:43 AM
I think going on a walk is my favorite way to connect with nature and the outdoors, especially in a city. I love being able to focus on what's in front of me rather, than being on my phone.
