Power Down the Computer

I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.

I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I could go thrifting more often and further reuse containers like I do currently.  I also could purchase a reusable straw and continue to donate things when I no longer need them instead of throwing them away.

I can unplug things when I leave the apartment so they're not taking up any electricity or outlet space.  I have started to implement this, but I will continue to do so and improve.

How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

I am not quite sure how electricity is generated in colony, so I am not completely aware of its impacts.  I should look into this in the future.

What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

I think that a sustainable water future in my region might look like some of the sustainable water practices that Nevada has picked up about learning how to treat waste water and reclaim it.  This would help us avoid future droughts.

I think this week is going good, I have been flushing the toilet only when necessary, avoiding plastic straws, and not turning on the water and letting it run while I brush my teeth.
