  • Reflection Question
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/27/2023 7:16 AM
I can do other things like open a window if my room is too hot instead of using a thermostat. I can also keep the lights off in my room if I do not need them.
  • Reflection Question
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Zowie Singleton (salem)'s avatar
Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/23/2023 5:55 PM
When walking I can pay more attention to my surroundings. While driving you have to keep your eyes on the road at all times but when walking you can pay attention to all the things around you.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/21/2023 2:48 PM
I started implementing the idea into my lifestyle that if I only need something for a onetime thing or event then I do not need it. If I cannot reuse or repurpose it, then I won't buy it. This has become a recent thing for me for the Eco challenge and since I started doing it has made me save money and not buy useless items.
  • Reflection Question
    Nature Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/17/2023 12:02 PM
I do agree with her statement. As individuals we can start cultivating gratitude by thinking about the small things we are grateful or thankful for. The more individuals who express gratitude will eventually cause the others around them to appreciate more in life as well resulting in society become more thankful as a whole.
  • Reflection Question
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

Recently I bought a very good reusable water bottle that I only use to drink out of. Since I bought it, I have found it very easy to avoid buying bottled water. So I am not really struggling with any barriers, and it has very quickly become a permanent habit.
  • Reflection Question
Water Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
What is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?

    Zowie Singleton (salem)'s avatar
Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/15/2023 7:56 AM
the main water source in my region is Codorus creek.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Zowie Singleton (salem)'s avatar
Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/14/2023 8:37 AM
Practicing these types of activities reminds me of all the things that benefit my mental health. It allows me to appreciate all the things and people I have in my life that support me and help me better myself everyday.
  • Reflection Question
    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Zowie Singleton (salem)'s avatar
Zowie Singleton (salem) 3/14/2023 8:32 AM
When I practice mindfulness eating, I pay more attention to the food I am actually consuming. When I have distractions, I do not really pay attention to the nutritional value or healthiness of the food on my plate. Without distractions I choose cautiously the food I am putting on my plate.
