    Water Use Reusable Bottles
What are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?

Some of the needs that water meets and the benefits that it provides me are hydration, person hygiene, and cooking. Virtually almost every single daily task requires water in some form. If we were without it, it'd likely be impossible to survive.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

Often times, if I do find myself in a situation where I need a bag for items but do not have the ability to utilize a reusable one, I will opt for a disposable bag. Instead of continuing to do this, ensuring that I always have some sort of reusable bag on my person will prevent this, or simply carrying everything by hand and taking a couple of extra trips will also work adequately.

In your opinion, how do social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community?

Social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community by not allowing those from all walks of life to attain a more equitable way of living, thereby leaving them behind. Instead, those with privilege must use it in order to assist in fighting for others' rights.

Some other easy things that I could do to save energy and reduce my environmental footprint are by turning off the lights after I leave a room, reducing overall appliance use, and utilize natural light.

What is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?

The main source of water in my region is the Susquehanna River.

How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

Where I currently live, which is in York, Pennsylvania, electricity comes from electric power plants. This can impact the environment, animals, and humans by causing pollution if it used in excess. This is evident when we look at greenhouse gas emissions, which have a direct link to climate change.
  • Reflection Question
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

A barrier to me using reusable water bottles and tap water instead of bottled water is the convenience and the time. Being in college, I don't always have immediate access to filtered water, specifically when I'm in my dorm room. If my Brita runs out and I don't have the time to refill it and let it filter, then grabbing a bottle of water is quicker and easier. However, I've been improving my time management skills, which has then allowed me to allot time to refill my Brita and continue using my reusable water bottle.
  • Reflection Question
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Human activities that impact the health of water systems, both locally and globally, are industrial production, recreational water usage, and using an excessive amount of hot water. Ways that I can improve the health of water systems is turning off the sink when I brush my teeth and 5-minute (or less) showers.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

What stands in the way of making the utilization of a reusable mug a habit is the convenience and accessibility of being able to purchase coffee from a chain location, which in turn gives me my coffee in a single-use cup. However, knowing the difference I'm making makes me feel better and more eager to drink my coffee, as I'm doing so in a more person and sustainable matter.
