I tend to be an impulse buyer. If I see something I like, I can find a justification for why I need it right now. If I wait to purchase things, I typically find I don’t need it, or I find something better suited for my purposes. Like for clothes, I need to have specific items in mind when I’m shopping, otherwise I buy everything that looks cute, regardless of if I need it in my wardrobe or not. So if I just keep waiting to buy things, it’ll keep me from brining home items that just add to the clutter.

How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

Whenever possible, I try to run outside - even in the dead of winter.  I find running through my neighborhood a far more enjoyable experience than trying to run on a treadmill. You get the added benefit of seeing neighborhood updates, breathing in fresh air, and being accutely aware of just how quickly the sun is setting these days. Funnily enough, my favorite running weather is the 10°-20° temps of the winter. You don't sweat! It's definitely harder to get motivated, but everything about the run is more fun.

I'm not a runner, but enjoy walking outside. One of the benefits of COVID is that I have seen so many more neighbors out walking. I meet people (and dogs of course) I hadn't meet in being at my house for over 10 years!

Hats off to you for cold-weather running!  I just got back from a run through the Hixon trails. I love running this time of year with the cooler temps and changing leaves.  But, ooooo...trying to motivate myself to run outside in the cold dark winter is tough!!!

It forces you to stop and actually think, formulate a response, creating those neural pathways to more positive thinking that are easier to find and follow in the future.
