Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:21 AM
I already used reusable water bottles before this challenge but I've found myself being more aware of how much I use it. I have also started to go out of my way to stop using single use water bottles.

    Simplicity Track my Purchases
What have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:18 AM
By tracking my purchases every day I can plan how much I am allowing myself to spend and allowing myself to save more money for the future

    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:17 AM
I've been composting at home for most of my life, but when I got to college I did not have access to a compost bin. I joined the compost club this year and I have started composting again and helping others learn how to compost

    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:15 AM
By making my own tea and other hot drinks at home I can save money by not purchasing it from a store. I also use my own reusable mugs which reduces my single use cup usage.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:14 AM
I always find myself needing a bag at the grocery store and other stores such as target or Walmart. I've started to keep a small reusable bag in my purse so when I do go out shopping out of the blue I have a bag. When I only make a small purchase I just carry my purchases out by hand.

    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:11 AM
With all the stress of college I've found it hard to stay happy and spend time on my own mental health. By just writing down three things I'm grateful for every  day I can stay more motivated.

Health Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
To what extent do you believe that environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:10 AM
I started doing research on the cleaning products I already use in my dorm. I found that many contain harmful toxins and are not sustainable produced. I started to research better alternatives to my cleaning supplies. I found many companies that are trying to become more sustainable and non toxic but I've only found a few that are actually sustainable. I've purchased a few different sustainable cleaning chemicals such as new laundry detergent, disinfecting wipes, and stain remover.

    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

    Emma Findeisen 11/27/2018 9:06 AM
on average I only get about six hours of sleep. by doing this challenge I have been able to fall asleep sooner and wake up earlier. this allows for me to get more work done during the day. by getting more sleep ive also been able to stay awake and pay attention in class. I've found that if I get all my homework done before dinner and have the rest of my evening to relax and recuperate that I can fall asleep sooner and have more time to sleep.

It makes me realize that I'm lucky to be in a position where I can help make changes, and I should take advantage of that.

    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Cari Witherow 11/14/2018 10:39 AM
Reduce - Buy more whole, unpackaged food and reduce the waste I generate.
Reuse - Bring my own tupperware to restaurants and reuse it instead of taking more every time I get leftovers.
Refuse - Don't take a bag when buying one small item (or bring my own!).
Repair - Get clothes with holes repaired instead of buying new!
Repurpose - Use old containers or jars for plant holders or candles instead of buying new things.
