    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Erika Grand 10/24/2018 8:36 PM
I believe that when you practice gratitude it can really help open your eyes to show you what you have in your life to be thankful for. One of the things I wrote down was food because I am able to walk out into my kitchen and I can look through my fridge or cabinets to see if I have anything I want to eat. While in other parts of the world, people have to grow their own food in order to eat and they are struggling to grow food due to climate change. Personally for me, when I practice gratitude it motivates me to work for a better world because I know what I am thankful for and how I wouldn't want to either not have it or struggle without it like some people do. So with my example of food I think about how I am lucky I do not have to starve because I am not able to grow my own food due to climate change and that I would never want to experience that, so then I am motivated to help change things so there is more food security in the world. It is about understanding what you have and are lucky/thankful to have and wanting others to be able to experience that as well.

    Transportation Go by Bike
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?

    Kaitlyn West 10/18/2018 8:07 AM
I enjoy biking to campus a lot more because I get fresh air before class, and it helps me wake up. I can also commute a lot faster than walking, and there are very accessible bike paths.
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Jackie Lundsted 10/17/2018 7:52 PM
To reduce electricity usage I can remember to turn off lights and other electronics when I leave the room. I could also do a better job of unplugging appliances when they aren't in use (TVs, phone chargers, microwave, etc.).
  • Reflection Question
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

    Patrick Rooney 10/17/2018 3:48 PM
I get around 7 hours of sleep now. I would like to work my way into the habit of getting at least 8. What would most likely work for me is to do more homework during the day instead of later at night and also spend less time on electronics before bed.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Katharine Lynch 10/17/2018 12:06 PM
The animal industry itself, and the fact that meat is so easily accessible, and no longer a product for the wealthy. I think that beginning to shift to a meat-less culture we need to begin by eating meat less, or eating meat that is more local, and possibly more expensive, rather than mass-produces.
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Choose Two-Sided Printing
Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

    Thomas Webler 10/15/2018 1:56 PM
The default setting on the print drivers is set to 2-sided already. You have to go into setting to change this.  So it's good that KSC did this already!
  • Reflection Question
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Thomas Webler 10/15/2018 1:55 PM
I could do a better job of recycling batteries.
  • Reflection Question
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Thomas Webler 10/15/2018 1:43 PM
A huge barrier is purchasing a reusable water bottle, which can cost about $20 for a good one.
