I keep forgetting to check in! We've been so busy at work. Some things are coming naturally because of the pandemic - driving less, walking more frequently, trying to be mindful of resource usage. But it's a busy time.
  • Reflection Question
    Community Support Native Communities
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Historically, dominant white culture has been anything but balanced, both in our approach to resources and land, but also in terms of peoples, place and things. We use and abuse, absorb and throw away what doesn't suit us. Greater balance brings about greater appreciation both for what came before us and what we have now.

And the results are in! Great work everybody, I'm really proud of this team for reaching 2nd place. Your dedication has significantly contributed to our ability to advance sustainable behavior even as we socially distance. In the next week or two, we will be receiving a report from Eco-Challenge summarizing the total environmental impact of the competition. I will be sure to share it with you all since you were the rockstars who made it happen. I will also be following up with our prize winners later today, keep an eye out an email!
  • Reflection Question
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

Given our need for social distancing, I am finding it to be very helpful to walk outdoors at the end of each work day. Given the amount of screen time we're currently having, it's a great way to disconnect from technology and refocus and re-energize for the next day.
  • Reflection Question
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

The practice of expressing gratitude on a daily basis during this challenge has proven not only beneficial to those I send notes, but also to me. Stopping to think about people to thank each day has helped me to stay focused on the positive during this trying time. It's a practice I intend to continue after the challenge is over.

I thought the daily de-cluttering challenge would be easy, just do a little everyday! But at this current time I am just not finding the motivation to put my mental energy into it. If anyone has suggestions, let me know!
  • Reflection Question
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

I notice so much more, including the day to day changes. I get to feel the elements and smell the scents (good and bad) and actually get to become familiar with the people, pets, homes, gardens instead of just driving by.

Hey everyone, here is a leaderboard update from this morning. With just 4 days left in the comptetition, lets make sure we're all checking in daily and completing our actions. We can definitely catch up to the Freshmen class over the weekend, finish strong, everyone!

I empty my dehumidifier water into my toilet tank when I flush.

I also collect water in the shower as I wait for the warm water and use it to water my plants..
