Transportation
Go by Bike
Use Georgetown's bike sharing program instead of driving/ubering.
Waste
Use a reusable bottle/mug
Skip using plastic bottles and use a reusable bottle. (BTW you could win a Georgetown reusable Starbucks cup by participating in the Sustainability Scavenger Hunt @sustainablegu)
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Waste
Recycle your waste using your trash and recycling room or area
Instead of throwing everything into the trash, reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill by recycling. Georgetown uses a single stream recycling system, so all common recyclable materials (with the exception of corrugated cardboard) should be placed in the same bin.
Waste
Use the compost bin at Leo’s
Instead of just tossing out your trash, reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill by composting. Hoya Hospitality composts back-of-house food waste in our kitchens, and all disposable to-go containers are compostable. Leo’s has compost, trash, and recycling options for post-consumer food waste.
Waste
Use a reusable to-go box at Leo’s
Sign up for Hoya Hospitality's reusable to-go box program and use the to-go boxes to reduce single-use waste.
Waste
Use a reusable water bottle or mug
Skip using plastic bottles and use a reusable bottle. (You could win a Georgetown reusable Starbucks cup by participating in the Sustainability Scavenger Hunt @sustainablegu or by being one of the top ten participants on EcoChallenge)
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
