Simplicity
Eat Mindfully without Distractions
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk each day to clear my mind, get some fresh air, and support my physical and mental health as a student.
Simplicity
Declutter My Living Space
I will declutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my dorm room, apartment, or home to create a more peaceful and organized living space.
Health
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 2 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Food
Listen to a Food Podcast
I will spend 30 minutes listening to a podcast about food.
Feedback Survey
Take the Campus Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
Tell us what you thought! Take a short survey about your experience to help us improve future events. It only takes a few minutes — and when you complete the survey, you'll earn points!
Simplicity
Engage in a Mindfulness Practice
I will spend 15 minutes per day practicing Mindfulness.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 4 hours in my community or campus through clubs, service-learning, campus organizations, or other local events or opportunities.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise or Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Transportation
Stay on the Ground and Travel Differently
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (e.g., telepresence, vacation locally).
Nature
Learn to Grow Plants My Way
I will spend 15 minutes exploring how I can grow plants in my space—whether it’s a dorm windowsill, apartment patio, or a shared campus garden.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will mulch the base of trees or plants near my dorm, apartment, or school garden to reduce runoff and help soil retain water.
Water
Collect Rain Water for Outdoor Use
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Transportation
Improve a Bus Stop in My Community
I will help improve a bus or shuttle stop on or near my campus by sharing the schedule, picking up litter, adding art, picking up litter, or making other small improvements.
Simplicity
Track My Purchases and Spending Habits
I will spend 30 minutes each day maintaining a record of all my purchases and learning about my spending habits.
Simplicity
Replace Screen Time with Other Activities
I will replace 1 minutes of screen time each day with other activities.
Waste
Learn About and Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 60 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Water
Practice Eco-Friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Transportation
Choose A Carbon Offset When Flying
Flying emits a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere, which affects air quality and the health of our planet, animals, and people. If buying a plane ticket, I will also buy a carbon offset.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Water
Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
If allowed, I will install a low-flow showerhead in my dorm or apartment to save water. If not, I’ll advocate for them or look for other water-saving habits.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentaries about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Energy
Switch To Cold Water for Laundry
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/11/2026 1:19 AMI plan on my buying more plants to add to my garden. -
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/11/2026 1:16 AMLets keep going. Small steps big changes -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/06/2026 7:49 AMFood sovereignty promotes local producers, which can help support sustainable practises. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationA round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/05/2026 8:57 AMOne way to reduce carbon emissions is to do a staycation. I do this often during long weekends, where I go to a nearby campsite and camp with any of my friends who are available. When no one else is available, I sometimes go by myself, and it is very calm and serene, allowing me to relax and reflect on life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/05/2026 8:50 AMI don’t like fast fashion, so I thrift most of my clothes. Since I know how to sew, it’s easy for me to upcycle my clothes and give them a new life. I have even made some clothes myself from scratch as a summer project, and it was really fun.-
Jake Trees (102) 4/05/2026 9:26 AMArthur that is amazing you thrift this saves money but also it is very exciting to see what great finds you might encounter. Every Saturday I devote my time to volunteer at a church thrift shop we have clothing and other miscellaneous things!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/05/2026 8:46 AMOne of the most prominent water concerns in my area is flooding, especially because we live close to th Lac des Deux Montagnes, where spring flooding caused by snowmelt and heavy rainfall is a major risk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow can your dorm, apartment building, or campus prepare for water-related challenges like shortages or extreme weather?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/05/2026 8:42 AMTThe best way I know to prepare for water-related challenges is to store and reuse water, for example by collecting rainwater or recycling greywater for non-drinking purposes. For instance, greywater can be used in public toilets for flushing instead of using clean drinking water. In addition, installing efficient automatic flushing systems that only activate when needed can help prevent unnecessary water waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/05/2026 8:34 AMI was surprised that my water footprint is actually low. I don’t take long showers, and I always make sure to turn off the faucet while brushing my teeth. I also collect rainwater in drums, which helps reduce my water use because I reuse water from natural sources.-
Melissa Tomecz 4/05/2026 8:26 PMI save too, wherever I can, with water. We have a rain barrel, but have not set it up yet.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterTrace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 4/05/2026 8:28 AMHouse drain -> Sewer pipes -> Municipal treatment plant -> Lake of Two Mountains -> St. Lawrence River -> Atlantic Ocean -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationIn what ways can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Greatness Arthur-Samugana 3/31/2026 5:54 PMI can advocate for eco friendly transportation by using and promoting public transit, biking, and carpooling. Biking is a fun way to travel and also a form of exercise, so it is good for both the planet and one’s health.
