Food
Advocate for More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local or organic food options at work, on campus, or in the spaces I frequent.
Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.
Transportation
Share Rides with Others
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or coordinate ride shares with roommates, classmates, or campus peers to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minutes per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Health
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 8 hours of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk each day to clear my mind, get some fresh air, and support my physical and mental health as a student.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?
Zainab Ashiq 4/21/2026 8:08 PMMy experience intentionally trying to eat less meat was challenging at first, especially when it came to changing habits and finding satisfying alternatives. However, over time, I discovered more plant-based meals that I actually enjoyed, which made the transition easier. It also made me more aware of my food choices and their impact on the environment and food systems. Overall, it became less about restriction and more about making more thoughtful and balanced decisions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat changes would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods? How can your choices contribute to these changes?
Zainab Ashiq 4/21/2026 7:58 PMImproving access to local, seasonal foods in food-insecure regions requires strengthening local agriculture, improving infrastructure, and supporting sustainable farming practices so communities can rely on their own food systems rather than imports.
My choices can contribute by buying local and seasonal foods, reducing food waste, and supporting ethical products, which helps shift demand toward more sustainable and equitable food systems overall.
