Caeley's actions
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Simplicity
Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 60 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 60 minute(s) each day.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 1 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products
I will spend 60 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home or dorm room.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Caeley Bair 10/20/2023 12:26 PMI would like to preserve some foods like pickles and different kinds of jams.-
Rachael Clarke 10/20/2023 1:44 PMPickling is easier than you think! It's a bit expensive to start, but a great way to prevent surplus from expiring. If you'd just like try it out, there are many refrigerator pickle recipes that don't need a canner

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Caeley Bair 10/20/2023 12:24 PMI practice self care by eating healthy and taking care of my mental health by doing things I love. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Caeley Bair 10/20/2023 12:22 PMIt makes me feel good being able to help prevent waste in the world but also having a clean environment around me. My next step to reduce waste would be take anything recyclable to a place where they are use the plastic or other materials. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Caeley Bair 10/04/2023 12:39 PMThis surprises me because I don't pay attention to how much food we waste every year and that is a high number for just one person. I would rather use this money to help pay for college or other necessities I need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Caeley Bair 10/02/2023 6:11 PMI plan to save the money and use it for emergency’s or just put it in my savings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Caeley Bair 10/02/2023 6:09 PMIt allows me to look around and observe the small things that I wouldn’t be able to see driving. Since it’s fall now I notice the changing leaves and see different animals around. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Caeley Bair 10/02/2023 6:06 PMOther ways I could save energy is by turning off the lights when i’m not using them to save electricity and by recycling.
