Tabitha's actions
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 5 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Community
LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
I will spend 15 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support Ecochallenge.org or another nonprofit.
Health
Joyful Movement
I will spend 15 minutes doing an activity where I'm both moving my body and enjoying myself.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Tabitha Bourne 4/07/2024 9:54 AMI think this statement is very true. Being outside connects us to who we are, and I believe it leads to us feeling more connected with the universe. Those who spend most of their time outside are more likely to understand their purpose, and feel ready for their own life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Tabitha Bourne 4/07/2024 9:54 AMWhen I am walking, I get to appreciate the flowers and the birds and the squirrels and all the little moments of nature that I do not normally get to enjoy while driving. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Tabitha Bourne 4/07/2024 9:52 AMMy favorite way to move my body and experience joy is to blast music and dance! It is so freeing and makes me feel good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Tabitha Bourne 4/04/2024 5:51 AMI can exercise with friends, exercise outside rather than the gym, and also practice mindfulness while exercising to keep my mind healthy -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Tabitha Bourne 4/04/2024 5:50 AMThe biggest thing that can be done to help the health of our water systems is by using non toxic cleaning products that will not put toxins in our water sources -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Tabitha Bourne 4/02/2024 7:34 AMOne of the biggest single use items I use is probably tea bags and kcups. I can make a difference and use less of these items by buying reusable bags or cups and putting loose tea or grinds in them. By sacrificing an extra minute of my day, I can help decrease the amount of single use waste I create. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Tabitha Bourne 4/02/2024 7:32 AMPracticing gratitude is a great way to see what is already good about the world, rather than constantly focusing on the bad. By practicing gratitude, you can remember why we need to fight to keep these good things in our life.
