Amber's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products
I will spend 50 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home or dorm room.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 50 minute(s) each day.
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 3 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors or classmates to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 1 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Transportation
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Amber Carr 4/22/2025 8:56 PMI ended up taking a train home and to school for Easter break, which avoided air travel. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (school, work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Amber Carr 4/20/2025 6:48 AMOn Wednesday, I traveled to the train station with a friend, saving us from getting two different cars to the train station. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat are other ways you could use the power of the sun to reduce your own environmental footprint?
Amber Carr 4/08/2025 6:47 AMWhen I want to cool down in my dorm, I open the window instead of turning on the AC. It lets natural air into the apartment, which creates a nice airflow. It feels very environmentally friendly.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Amber Carr 4/07/2025 11:23 AMThis morning, I took a solidcore class in Washington, D.C. On my way there, I took a lime scooter and afterward, I walked back to campus. In my daily exercise routine, I could find a way to incorporate spending quality time with friends, a value that is important to me, as it is a healthy way to practice presence in my mind, body, and with the people around me. Today, it was raining outside, but on a nicer day I would prioritize going for a run. Spending my exercise time outside would encourage me to practice presence. In both values, practicing presence is the vehicle that drives toward improving my mind, body, and soul. In Degrasse's reading "Truth and Beauty," he seeks solutions to creating spaces where we can bridge ideological divides. Maybe in simply spending quality time with a friend in a present space, we can have conversation that encourages expressing our views, opposing or similar. -
Amber Carr 4/06/2025 7:56 AMThe ecochallenge has encouraged me to be self-aware and more conscious about my daily actions. This exercise draws parallels to setting an intention, a recurring theme in class discussions. I typically use a reusable mug for tea, but checking it off as a daily action set my intention to reuse a cup, which naturally discourages me from using disposable cups. When checking off these daily actions, I suggest thinking how it connects to a theme in class.
