Kylie's actions
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 8 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Health
Learn More about Food Apartheid
What can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 4 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Community
Meet My Neighbors
I will meet 1 new neighbor(s) each day.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Kylie Coraggio 10/25/2023 9:07 AMin a community that doesn't have access to nutritious food, there will be much more illness and weakened immune systems. It can also cause imbalances in peoples bodies causing more depression and anxiety. In addition it will likely increase obesity. -
Kylie Coraggio 10/22/2023 10:10 AMIt is going really well. It has been challenging to check in every day since i’m on vacation but it is easy to do most challenges -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?

Kylie Coraggio 10/18/2023 9:14 AMMy campus eco challenge is going really well. I definitely think about it now with my daily actions while I’m doing things. I usually log the day previous in the morning so that helps me take a good start to my day and reminds me to do all my challenges for the day! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Kylie Coraggio 10/16/2023 9:59 AMI have 2 metal straws and 3 glass straws at my apartment in college and even more at home. I think it is simply a waste of money to buy plastic straws and I really want to save the turtles so this one is a no brainer and easy for me to do to help the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Kylie Coraggio 10/16/2023 9:58 AMI shop at Aldi, so it is necessary for me to bring reusable bags. I always bring the same two and put them right back in my car for the next time I go. I always carry extras in my hands. One thing that I struggle with is having bags from other grocery stores after I go and not knowing what to do with them. I currently store them in a cabinet. -
Kylie Coraggio 10/15/2023 11:33 AMIt is going really well for me so far. I traveled this weekend so it was hard to do everything and remember to check in but the challenges are surprisingly easy to attain. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Kylie Coraggio 10/13/2023 9:48 AMCompost and recycle. I also break down all my cardboard and never throw away anything that isn’t rinsed.
