Waste
Check Recycling Near Me
Recycling rules vary by location. I’ll spend 5 minutes learning which plastics my local or campus recycling program accepts. This helps me avoid “wishcycling” — tossing items in the bin and hoping they’ll be recycled, even if they aren’t.
Waste
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 10 disposable plastic bottles from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags when Shopping
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 per day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 10 disposable cups to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straws out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Energy
Complete an Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Energy
Turn Off Lights and Electronics
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Health
Go Get A Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being. I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
Zach Cox ECO315 10/22/2025 8:46 AMI repaired my previous laptop. It had the harddrive that was dying. I had a spare M.2 laying around so I installed it with that and now using it as a linux machine.
