Madi's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Madi Dober 11/04/2024 8:52 AMHow top 3 core values is respect, curiosity, and communication. I chose specifically those three because i think that giving respect to your peers or just in general is so important. Curiosity because it's so important to be curious and question things and want to know more. Communication because it's important to talk about things and understand more than you did before. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Madi Dober 10/31/2024 9:04 AMSometimes you don't really think about it and it's easier to just grab a plastic water bottle and go. But to make it easier i would just buy a bunch of water bottles and make it kind of my only option. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Madi Dober 10/31/2024 9:03 AMhonestly yes, printing on both sides is overall easier so i feel like switching to making it automatically both sides wouldn't be a hard and it wouldn't be a switch that people wouldn't like i feel like they would barely notice -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Madi Dober 10/09/2024 6:58 AMGet more fresh air and you see more things around you instead of just looking straight ahead while driving-
Alex Matthews 10/09/2024 8:35 AMThat sounds nice. Walks are calming and it's better than driving.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Madi Dober 10/04/2024 8:15 AMfarming and building roads impact the health of water a lot because the pollutants can enter the ground water unknowingly at any point. I'm not really sure how i could personally change anything with the farming and building roads besides addressing it or make it more known how damaging doing some of those things really are to the water -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Madi Dober 9/30/2024 10:36 AMI wasn't sure at first but with a little research i learned that it is mostly from ground water -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Madi Dober 9/30/2024 10:35 AMI could probably try to recycle a lot more here. My family is big on recycling at home so i used to recycle all the time but now that i'm in college i want to try to be better at trying to recycle
