Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 3 containers out of the landfill each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cups to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags when Shopping
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottles from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Take 5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

Lino Etrata 10/02/2025 10:44 AMwhenever I have nothing to do, I tend to spend time organizing the items I have in my room. When I come across an object that I do not want anymore, I put it aside in a donation box to then donate to a local thrift store where it can have a second life. -
Lino Etrata 10/02/2025 10:34 AMUsing a reusable water bottle, especially one that keeps water cool, is much more efficient then any plastic bottle. I can continuously refill my bottle without having to throw it out and I don't have to worry around losing the lid. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat did you notice about your habits or routines when limiting your showers to five minutes? What changes—if any—do you think you’ll continue long-term?
Lino Etrata 10/02/2025 10:32 AMI notice that the water usually does not run cold after a long while and I tend to use less products than before. I will continue to use less time in the shower. -
Lino Etrata 10/02/2025 10:31 AMI love walking outside, especially during the colder months where the temperature is just right for me. I love seeing all the tall trees around my neighbourhood while I take my dogs for a walk. I enjoy taking different new trails leading to different areas I still have to explain. Being outside makes me more calm and helps me disconnect with daily life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Lino Etrata 10/02/2025 10:25 AMIt does ring with me because I enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. It is an escape way from daily busy life. Being in nature helps me regulate my emotions from when Im angry or agitated. The implications for a culture that spends most of the time outdoors implies a calming way to relax and connect with nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Lino Etrata 10/02/2025 10:22 AMI can prevent myself from acquiring more things by thinking to myself if it is a want or need. If I forget about the item later, then it was not necessary in my life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Lino Etrata 10/01/2025 8:09 AMI start to see more of nature when I walk instead of drive. Walking is a great way for me to exercise and relax from busy life. I tend to notice how large certain trees are, the sounds of bird calls and the flow of the wind whenever it passes. These experiences cannot be seen or heard when in a moving car. Walking reduces the amount of gas I burn whenever I drive my car and keeps me healthy-
Samantha G 10/01/2025 10:54 AMI find walking really helps you notice the little things in nature, for instance, the sound from stepping on a crunchy leaf!
