Health
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Waste
Reducing waste
I find an item that isn't reusable or recyclable and try and find a more sustainable alternative for it!

Aspen Farmer 3/10/2026 11:17 AMFor this week, we focused on nature!! I always try and enjoy every moment outdoors, even if it is just looking at the sunset while walking to my car. This week I worked on being okay with being outdoors and not doing anything. I always feel like I have to be doing something, but this week I just sat outside in my backyard with no phone, book, or anything. This really made me look around and be okay with not doing anything!-

Aspen Farmer 3/02/2026 12:02 AMConsumerism:
This week I worked a lot on reflecting if I really needed something before I bought it. I also tried to not scroll on social media as much because that is defiantly something that makes me want to buy more things that I do not need.-

Aspen Farmer 2/22/2026 11:43 PMThis week we focused on transportation. I wish that I had done a better job, and I tried to be more aware of ways to reduce the amount that I was driving but I could have done much better. On Friday night I did have to work, and then work Saturday morning and night as well. Instead of driving home to sleep and driving back in the morning I was able to stay in a hotel overnight. This was a way that I reduced my excess use of driving.-

Aspen Farmer 2/15/2026 7:00 PMThis week I focused on community at my workplace. This week was very busy for everyone, and we were all pretty tired by the end of our shift. I brought in valentines cookies, and made sure to go around and pass them out to people.
I also started looking into dog walking/dog adventures that you can do with dogs from rescues. I was hoping to take one on my hike that I went on today, but unfortunately they were all booked up.-

Aspen Farmer 2/09/2026 2:40 PMThis week we focused on water. Something I have been working on all term is to only be taking 7 minute showers. In this amount of time I really do feel like I can get everything done, but also not feel like I am rushing too much. This week I also worked on not wasting water when washing my dishes, and trying to wait to wash as many as I could at once. I also wouldn't just let the water run while I was waiting for it to warm up. I would use some of this water to water my plants, or for my cats drinking water, or for my water filter, or for my ice maker.-

Aspen Farmer 2/01/2026 11:31 PMThis week I really focused on not overbuying when grocery shopping. I went to costco and fred meyers and I typically buy a lot of food because I am hungry and I think I want it. This week I made sure to eat before going grocery shopping and I made a list before I went to the store so I wasn't doing as much "shopping" and more went there for what I needed.-

Kameko Lashlee Gaul 2/03/2026 7:06 AMshopping while hungry is such a dangerous endeavor, this is really smart. i think i'll try the same thing when i go shopping this week :-)

Aspen Farmer 1/27/2026 10:02 AMThis week I worked on taking shorter showers with less hot water. I started setting a timer for 7 minutes when I got in the shower to make sure that I wasn't losing track of time and showering for too long. I am also trying to be more mindful about how long I take to warm up my shower.-
Amy Minato 2/05/2026 12:24 PMsomething to consider is saving the water that runs while you're heating it up for doing dishes or watering plants.. -
Jessica Edmiston 2/01/2026 2:20 PMThis is a random historical research project I did once - how did those who could not afford a bath tub, or the time it took to warm that much water for bathing, stay clean? In an endeavor to consider my water usage I have tested a few different techniques and I’ve settled on the one that fits me best. I have a basin specifically for sponge bathing and hair washing.
I can use a kettle (fire, electric, etc.) to warm up enough water to add warmth to non-heated water, then it’s a matter of using a wash cloth, I use Dr. Brauner’s soap, putting it straight on the wash cloth, wetting it, and then using it to wipe myself down, saving those ‘special’ parts for last so that I can use less than a full gallon of water to wash up. When out on the trail this is very important, as sometimes I’m using as little is about 3 cups of water 1 hot, 1 cold, and 1 to rinse.
For hair washing, I use bar soaps instead of bottled shampoo, and conditioner; this keeps the weight low, as well as lasting longer than the bottled shampoos, as I’m applying it directly to my scalp, and then working it down to the ends. This requires less hot water up front, but does require more temperate water on the rinsing side - but because I use biodegradable and naturally safe soap, it’s not unusual when hiking or simply not living in an apartment, for me to go to a stream and have a nice wash and hair rinse.

Aspen Farmer 1/17/2026 11:08 AMThis week I looked into trying to find sustainable alternatives to products that can't be reused or recycled. This week I switched my toothpaste to toothpaste tablets that are packaged in an aluminum tube like container. This container will also last longer than a typical tube of toothpaste, and the ingredients in it is more clean. Completing this challenge has also encouraged me to look into making my own toothpaste and switching to a better toothbrush alternative as well!-

Mark Kaganov 1/18/2026 4:44 PMSwitching your toothpaste to tablets instead of the traditional tubes is a great idea! Where did you find them? Like Amandalyn mentioned, let us know how this change goes for you. -
