Food
Listen to a Food Podcast
I will spend 15 minutes listening to a podcast about food.
Community
Explore the Community Feed and Connect with Others
I will spend 10 minutes reading the Ecochallenge feed each day and giving high fives or commenting on posts by people who I don't know, but whose content inspires or interests me.
Food
Make Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Water
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 20 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.
Community
Watch a Documentary About Racial Injustice
I will watch 2 documentaries about systemic racism to learn more about how it affects us and the planet.
Community
Learn How Voter Suppression Affects My Community
I will spend at least 20 minutes finding out what local laws, policies, and practices keep people from voting in my community.
Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals and/or 0 vegan meals each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 9:43 AMI learned from the documentary 13th (I highly recommend) that racial injustice is deeply connected to mass incarceration and systemic inequality. It showed how policies have unfairly targeted Black communities for decades. This connects to sustainability because true sustainability isn’t just about the environment, it also means creating fair, just systems where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 9:39 AMIn York, PA, water justice issues include aging pipes, possible asbestos contamination, and concerns about PFAS in drinking water. Low-income neighborhoods are most affected since they may lack resources to filter or buy bottled water. I can help by raising awareness, supporting clean water initiatives, and conserving water at home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 8:35 AMI do that pretty often. I have recently been meal-prepping, and most of my meals in the afternoon are meatless salads I make. I love salads, and it's genuinely an easy meal to make. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat did you learn about the impact of your seafood choices on ocean health? What challenges, if any, did you encounter when trying to make more sustainable seafood choices?
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 8:29 AMI learned that seafood choices can greatly affect ocean health because overfishing and unsustainable fishing methods harm marine ecosystems and deplete species. Since I have a shellfish allergy, I avoid shellfish entirely, which limits my options but also means I naturally stay away from some species that are often overharvested. The main challenge I face is finding safe seafood that’s both allergy-friendly and sustainably sourced, since many products don’t clearly label where or how the fish was caught. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat are the ways in which voters are prohibited from or discouraged from voting in your region and/or state? What could be done to get rid of these barriers?
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 8:18 AMMany voters face barriers such as early registration deadlines, limited polling places, long lines, limited transportation, and confusion about mail-in ballots. These issues can be reduced by expanding early voting, adding more polling sites, improving voter education, and simplifying mail-in balloting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat podcast did you choose and what did you learn on the podcast you listened to?
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 8:16 AMIt was called "Good Food", but the specific episode I heard was "Going garden-to-table". It was first talked about in this episode of the podcast, where host Evan Kleiman explores how food connects from the garden to the community. From home gardeners preserving their harvests to immigrant chefs and farmers bringing local flavor to L.A. The episode highlights how growing, sourcing, and cooking food are tied to culture, labor, and love for the land. -
Zamira Figueroa 101 11/09/2025 7:56 AMI'm so glad I've gotten to see everyone putting in the effort to educate themselves on topics they might have never thought of! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWho inspired you on the feed, and why? Did you meet anyone new, learn anything exciting, or discover a new perspective?
Zamira Figueroa 101 10/30/2025 10:13 AMEveryone has been inspiring me. I love how open everyone is to responding to questions and daily tasks. I saw some people from my team as well post so it's nice seeing people I know checking in and doing the eco-friendly challenge.
