Benjamin's actions
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 3 containers out of the landfill each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottles from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Calculate my Digital Carbon Footprint
I will calculate my digital carbon footprint and take steps to reduce my CO2 emissions.
Transportation
Use Public Transit Instead of Driving
I will use public transit 4 miles each day and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
Benjamin Ford 101 10/28/2025 9:54 AMThese numbers do not surprise me honestly the government isn't super worried about the environment and affects things have on them. If I could change the numbers I would make more funding for public transportation so, then its more accessible so then less people drive everywhere and take the bus or other forms of public transportation instead. Also, if there is more public transportation then the demand for cars will decrease so companies will make less polluting the world less with the factories. -
Benjamin Ford 101 10/28/2025 9:41 AMSo far, it's going great I have been using my own reusable metal water bottle and not using any plastic bottles or any plastic utensils. I also have made sure to turn off my sink while brushing saving more water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterDo you know where your campus or community gets its water? If not, how could you find out?
Benjamin Ford 101 10/27/2025 9:01 AMI do not know but I could find pout by looking it up online or asking a professor. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Benjamin Ford 101 10/27/2025 8:38 AMsome people think tap water is gross which it isn't at all. But also, when people are in a rush, they will just grab a plastic bottle but if we just increase the cost of plastic bottles and decrease the price of reusable bottles well be fine. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Benjamin Ford 101 10/27/2025 8:37 AMI used to plastic water bottles but now I've switch to only metal. Also, I switched from plastic utensil to reuseable ones.
