Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 5 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.

I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided below and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.

Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Food
Whole Food Lifestyle
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.

Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 25 minute(s) each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.

Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Susan G 10/24/2024 9:56 PMWe preserved tomatoes from our garden by roasting them in the oven and then mashing or pureeing them into a sauce. Sometimes we added seasonings or onions for variety. We froze the sauce in a silicone cube tray (Souper Cubes) and once frozen, popped them into a freezer bag for use in sauces and soups throughout the year. A little time consuming while waiting for the sauce to freeze, but worthwhile in the long run. When there were too many tomatoes to process, we froze them whole. Not sure what they'll be like, but looking forward to trying them out the next time I make chili or soup!🍅 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Susan G 10/05/2024 9:02 PMI've been composting fruit and veggie scraps and egg shells for many years and the compost always gets used in the garden. Fortunately, my city has curbside collection of compostable waste, so any food waste that I wouldn’t put in my garden now goes in this bin, further reducing what goes in my garbage.-
Janelle Sztuhar 10/18/2024 1:49 PMWay to go Susan - I bet your garden is better for it! I recently took a look at my city's compost rules as they were updated last year so I will be sharing copies with my other household members so we are all making the most of this program!
