George's actions
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 5 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 6 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
George Greene 11/24/2024 5:45 PMOne barrier to using reusable bottles and tap water is that it is really inconvenient . I usually have my dorm fridge filled with plastic water bottles and just grab one whenever I am thirsty. I also carry them around with me all day. By using a reusable bottle, I can look for refilling stations around campus and reduce my use of plastic bottles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
George Greene 11/24/2024 5:43 PMI can talk to my parents and brothers about finding ways to use clean energy and show them what I have learned in this class. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
George Greene 11/24/2024 5:40 PMI use plastic baggies when I make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every morning so I can eat them throughout the day. I use a lot of those. I could find a reusable wrap for them so I am not throwing out so much plastic each day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
George Greene 11/24/2024 5:38 PMThose numbers really surprise me. Transportation infrastructure is so important. If we don't have the infrastructure for our roads and railways, how are we going to transport goods and services that will improve our economy? It makes no sense. Infrastructure is the foundation of our country and needs to be maintained regularly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
George Greene 11/24/2024 5:36 PMIt cost more to buy, transport, feed, and raise animals used for their meat. Eating meat leaves a huge carbon footprint. -
George Greene 11/13/2024 6:46 PMMy ecochllenge is going very good all my tasks have helped me to see all the ways I am able to help. They have been very good in showing other people that they can help as well.
