  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
Do people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of “reduce” be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:49 AM
I think those are better off economically should make more conscious consumption choices as they are able to shop from a wider array of stores. I think reduction for those who are struggling to have basic needs may seem harsh, and having options for those who need basic resources is a responsibility that falls on all of us
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:48 AM
I feel so much more peace when I spend time in nature. Especially since I am new to Hawai'i, I am grateful for all the new hikes I now have access to!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
What did you learn about the impact of your seafood choices on ocean health? What challenges, if any, did you encounter when trying to make more sustainable seafood choices?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:47 AM
I did not know how greatly consuming seafood was damaging the ocean. I now am more conscious of what seafood choices I make and the impact I am having in my choices.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:46 AM
I could purchase more foods from local farmers to promote the economy and healthier foods for my body.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
What did you learn about your digital habits that surprised you the most?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:45 AM
I was unaware how much carbon my digital habits were using.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
Do you know where your campus or community gets its water? If not, how could you find out?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:45 AM
I do not but I am sure I could look up the answer!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:45 AM
This does not surprise me, however I wish my money was spent to improve public transport. As I rely on this method of transportation so much I would greatly appreciate if it was better and more efficient.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:41 AM
I already use a reusable water daily, and while the transition to college made this a little harder, the EcoChallenge kept this practice a daily habit!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
Notice how much time you were spending checking email outside of class or study time. What changed for you when you created space away from your inbox?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:40 AM
By creating space I was able to better manage my time and create more space between work and other aspects of my life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

    Riley Guerrero's avatar
    Riley Guerrero 12/01/2025 1:40 AM
Taking a walk helps me to feel better physically and mentally and is overall a very cleansing experience for me.
