I can advocate more, and be involved in campaigns, marches, protests, committees, and many other groups to have our voices heard to inform others how to live more sustainably.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

A major activity is global warming. The warmth of our air melts ice caps, increases the ocean level floods into towns and gets into their freshwater and makes it too salty because of salinization. Locally though, pesticide and fertilizer run off can get into the river and pollute our water. We can try to create better fertilizers or use less of them that don't pollute our water, also we can reduce our need for water by using rain systems and such.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I think keeping a reusable bag with me when I know I'm going to go to a store is a great habit not to use plastic bags. I think not shopping a lot is a great way to reduce plastic bags as well, if you don't need to buy things, then you don't need a bag! But it can be very helpful to just have a reusable bag, folded or rolled up, and keep it in your back pocket or something.

Yes, I keep my reusable bags in the car and then smaller bags that I can use at Target, etc. in my pocket or purse.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

I think just being resourceful with what you have is an integral part of practicing simplicity. I think it is easy for me especially because I need to save money and this is a great challenge that allows me to save money and reduce my consumption of goods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

I wasn't addicted to sugar but I am so glad that I have reduced it because I feel like I have so much more energy and more productive. Also, fruits taste so much sweeter and almost taste like candy.
