Jade's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Food
Locally-Sourced Meals
I will source 1 meal(s) each day from local producers.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 5 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 60 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Jade Haines 901 4/08/2025 2:40 PMYes, that rings true for me. There's something simply amazing about being in nature — whether it's in the forest, by the ocean, or under the stars. For a culture that spends most of its time indoors, the implication is a growing disconnect from the natural world, which can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even a loss of appreciation for the environment. Reconnecting with nature might not only support our emotional and spiritual well-being, but also inspire more mindful care for the planet.
