I’ve been a lot more conscious about turning the lights off when I’m not in a room thanks to this challenge!

I saw rare Black Crowned Night Herons in Rock Island! An adult was spotted before I went, but I only ended up seeing the juveniles. However, it was an exciting addition to my bird life list! I would attach a picture, but I got so excited when I saw the birds that I forgot to take one!

I went birding at Walla Walla Point Park today where I saw over five hundred ducks!
I also saw a bunch of cool birds at my feeder today. The birds pictured below are American Goldfinches on my feeder and a Song Sparrow and House Finches on my birdbath.

I went birding today and saw about fifty Wood Ducks! I saw more ducks than can be seen in the pictures below.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
In what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?

The landfill is located by the airport. No one lives right next to the area because it is surrounding by orchard and other trees.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Noelle Hill's avatar
    Noelle Hill 1/23/2025 4:23 PM
My main barrier is forgetfulness. I usually have a reusable water bottle with me and when I forget it, I will buy bottled water. I think practicing the habit of packing my reusable water bottle will help make this a permanent habit.

Noelle, so cool that you added the photo of the Great Blue Heron. My Dad was a huge bird enthusiast and one of his favorites was the Great Blue Heron. I always think of him when I see one.
