For my transportation eco-challenge because I do not drive I was wondering how I could make a difference in the ecosystem. This was challenging, but after reading last week's reflection, I decided that my online ordering is sporatic and sometimes I order small items off of prime for a small price and two-day shipping. I decided that I could probably do a once a week order (I chose Fridays) to order. By ordering throughout the week, I was making a carbon "footprint" equivalent to making several trips to the store. I feel that this is one way that I could help be sustainable in this area.

For my community eco-challenge this week I helped a neighbor mow his yard and helped with the weed eater and cutting back blackberries. My neighbor is someone that works and commutes Monday-Friday and the weekends are valuable for a little R & R. Because of the fire season, I woke up early on Sunday and began yardwork about 7 am. I feel that helped not only him and his wife, but also helped the community and the block because the weeds were getting tall and many people walk on that road to go to the park and swimming pool.

Because I misunderstood the posting of ecochallenges, I only posted one last week. I missed the energy portion, so I would like to post for all it's worth. This week I conserved energy by being mindful to amount of electricity that I am using. Instead of leaving the light on in the kitchen while we are relaxing in the living room, I made sure to turn lights off. On a more personal note, I spent more time studying toward education, so that was worth the energy! lol

For my water ecochallenge this week I worked a little bit on wasting water. Instead of having to turn the water faucet on or leaving it on while I am cleaning, I filled the sink with some soapy water, avoiding having to have more and more. Also, I cut back on my coffee intake a little bit. I know it sounds funny, but I typically drink way too much coffee in the morning and have to fill my small keurig a few times.

Drinking less coffee also puts less caffeine into the environment through your pee. People don't really realize how human coffee consumption is altering the environment this way. Pharmaceuticals too.

This week for my food ecochallenge, I spent a designated portion of my morning weeding and caring for my garden. This is something that I try and do weekly or every two weeks. I know it is healthy for there to be a cover crop and vegetation through the winter months, but I feel that keeping the healthy and productive plants in a decent environment is important too. Obviously by my pictures, the weeds would definitely try to take over and drown out my seedlings.

One thing you can do is put yard clippings down on the soil around your plants. itll act a bit as a weed blocker and as it degrades it'll put nutrients back into the soil.

Okay. I am really confused on whether I am posting in the right place. My eco-challenge this week was to reduce the amount of plastic that I put in the atmosphere and be mindful of plastic waste. I have worked toward this goal by saving plastic containers, putting them in their own spot instead of putting them in the waste to go to the landfill. Some of the containers, for example, milk containers are tricky because although I can keep them away from the landfill, they are not refundable and I am coming up with solutions on how to properly recycle them. I

On a sidenote, I also worked with my partner this week on sustainable pet care. My partner bought a brush for our 7 month old puppy because it is that time of year, and she sheds. We have brushed her a few times this week, and this takes about an hour because the hair is coming out in clumps. Also, she hurt her leg and we had to put hydrogen peroxide on her wound, triple antibiotic, and cut some of the hair around it. I think we will be phoning the pet clinic that she is enrolled in tomorrow regarding that.

Hello Tanaya! Looks like you got your post in the right place :). I totally get it though, the site has taken me some time to understand all the right buttons. My first post I accidentally set as public instead of just our team- oops! It amazes me how only a handful of states practice allowing people to get a small refund for bottle returns, with Oregon being one of these states that participate. You brought up a good point about some of our drink containers are not recyclable or refundable, ultimately making them waste that will end up in a landfill. I love your item about trying to repurpose the plastic containers that you have collected from your drink items. I am not sure if this would be anything worth looking into for what your own personal needs are and would also depend on the shape and type of milk containers, but if it is the solid plastic ones perhaps they could be turned into vases for flowers or a watering can for plants outside? I could see the shape of the plastic ones being potentially useful! However for a vase it might need to be decorated to be a little more attractive. Just a couple thoughts! Sustainable pet care is an area that definitely needs more good ideas for pet owners to look into, so much waste comes from taking care of our furry friends. I hope your puppy feels better soon! Great job this week and I look forward to hearing more about your plastic container repurposing!
