Marshall Israll-Burnett's actions
Transportation
Improve a Bus Stop in My Community
I will help improve a bus or shuttle stop on or near my campus by sharing the schedule, picking up litter, adding art, picking up litter, or making other small improvements.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will try to shop at a farmers market or food co-op, if one is accessible, to support local farmers and businesses. By doing so, I may be able to learn more about who produces the food I eat and goods I buy.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for the Earth
I will spend 60 minutes per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Waste
Check Recycling Near Me
Recycling rules vary by location. I’ll spend 10 minutes learning which plastics my local or campus recycling program accepts. This helps me avoid “wishcycling” — tossing items in the bin and hoping they’ll be recycled, even if they aren’t.
Nature
Join An Outdoor Project
I will join a local or campus-based outdoor restoration project to help care for natural spaces and get involved in hands-on environmental work.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk each day to clear my mind, get some fresh air, and support my physical and mental health as a student.
Nature
Explore a New Trail or Nature Walk
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Transportation
Use Public Transit Instead of Driving
I will use public transit 25 miles each day and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Feedback Survey
Take the Campus Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
Tell us what you thought! Take a short survey about your experience to help us improve future events. It only takes a few minutes — and when you complete the survey, you'll earn points!
Energy
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Energy
Turn Off Lights and Electronics
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 20 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Health
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to people or perform random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Health
Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation
I will spend 15 minutes practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation to nurture love and compassion for myself and others.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Transportation
Commute By Bike
I will commute by bike 3 miles each day and avoid sending CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Energy
Calculate my Digital Carbon Footprint
I will calculate my digital carbon footprint and take steps to reduce my CO2 emissions.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise or Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Community
Explore the Community Feed and Connect with Others
I will spend 15 minutes reading the Ecochallenge feed each day and giving high fives or commenting on posts by people who I don't know, but whose content inspires or interests me.

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/30/2026 7:56 AMToday is unfortunately the last day of ecochallenge. But instead of closing on a negative note, I think it is good to close on a positive note. As such, instead of looking back and saying "Oh I wish I had done more during the ecochallenge", I am sharing my own mentality that the ecochallenge is just the start of a new chapter for many of us. It will improve our future, and has already shaped our past! As Seneca states: "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end". So instead of reflecting on every action this ecochallenge has helped me accomplish, I would prefer to ask myself and the feed this question: which of these daily actions can become lifelong journeys? Whether just turning off the lights when we don't need them or using less water, every small action increases awareness. Awareness is the start of your journey, and it's how we got here. And it's also how we will depart here. Knowing that our awareness helped reshape the community. Knowing that one day, maybe our children will say "hey remember that ecochallenge you did? Can we try one?" And maybe, just maybe our world could actually improve. One small step at a time.

Today, I went for a walk during my 3 hour break. I set up my hammock under some trees. After all, the temperature was very nice! I finished up some work, and then later I also did a tarot reading and cleansed my inner self. You don't have to believe in it for it to be true. But one thing that IS true is this sunset I caught on my way home ☺️

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/26/2026 8:47 AMCurrently attending the Intercollegiate Eco-Expo, hosted at Dawson College! Many different guest speakers and booths from Cégeps and Universities all across Québec and Montréal have booths here. It reminds me that every sign of awareness makes the best medicine for our planet Earth.
Also met an old friend here that had distanced herself from me, it was very fun!

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/24/2026 9:07 PMThis evening, I took a bike ride to chase the sunset. I took the time to reflect on my core values and the reason I care about the planet. It dawned upon me that nature has bestowed it's practises onto us, not the other way around. It also helped me reinforce my quote by Aristotle "In all things nature, there is something of the marvelous." That marvel is the beauty of sunsets, the effervescent natural animals that inhabit our ecosystem, the pitter-patter of raindrops, and even our inner consciousness! (P.S., highly recommend this spot of the park if you ever head up there for sunset!)

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/22/2026 4:58 PMNo sunrise this morning, it was too cloudy. But I did catch an amazing sunset! Today, on international earth day, let's take 5 minutes to reflect not only on what we have done throughout the ecochallenge but also what we have permanently implemented into our daily lives. Whether that be showing random acts of kindness, picking up one piece of litter a day, or even saying hello to the bus driver, every small action can have a big outcome! It starts one step at a time 🙃🙃🙃

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/21/2026 7:40 AMThis morning, I decided to time my shower from the minute I turned the water on to the minute I turned it off. I was shocked when I found out that I took 10 minute showers!! In future, I plan on taking shorter showers to save water and money.

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/20/2026 3:52 AMChilly 🥶 today, sitting at 0°C feeling like -5°C! Lots of frost outside not only on the ground but also on cars!! An action I do daily that helps remind myself to keep the lights off is not switching them on. Especially in the summer months, it is useless to turn them on at this hour because enough sunlight is piercing through the windows that you can actually see pretty well (at least for myself)

Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/19/2026 6:29 PMBecause I had a lot of free time today, I continued working on my album "sunsets". Ideas are coming along, and I've started working on lyrics for some songs.
