Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 30 minutes each day.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 4 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Simplicity
Disconnect from Email
I will disconnect from my email when not at work or school, using my personal time for endeavors that help me live out my values.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 45 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Golnar Jalinous 4/22/2025 7:28 PMAt school Im always walking and when at home I try to walk to my destinations because I don’t want to use the car when I don’t absolutely have to. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Golnar Jalinous 4/22/2025 7:27 PMI believe that being with nature brings us closer to achieving our spiritual and emotional development. We live in a society that is always in a rush but it’s the time spent with nature that helps us take a step back and appreciate our surroundings -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Golnar Jalinous 4/21/2025 8:40 AMI definitely use coffee cups because I drink two coffees a day. I could get a reusable coffee mug instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Golnar Jalinous 4/21/2025 8:38 AMI feel like I enjoyed my food more without the distraction of my phone. I also tried to eat with a friend and that also helped me enjoy my meals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Golnar Jalinous 4/19/2025 2:04 PMI feel less stressed and I’m learning to enjoy myself and mature. Today I went on a walk with my friend and it was even better. We both were able to enjoy each other without any distractions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Golnar Jalinous 4/19/2025 2:03 PMSometimes water bottles are big and heavy while plastic bottles are light and smaller. I think having my backpack has helped me with bringing my water bottle around. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
Golnar Jalinous 4/19/2025 2:00 PMI feel less stressed because I’m not worried about emails from teachers or emails about assignments. This time is relieving and I feel happier.
