Nozomi's actions
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 20 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 4 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Nozomi Kiritoshi 11/16/2023 4:50 PMPlastic cutleries, like fork, spoon when I use takeout. I will use reusable cutleries at the shop. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Nozomi Kiritoshi 11/16/2023 4:38 PMI live near the coastline of Japan, and I found there are many of plastic waste in the ocean. It makes the world's environment worse. So we should avoid putting away plastic bottles in the ocean, and reduce the use of plastic bottles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
Nozomi Kiritoshi 11/16/2023 4:33 PMIt made me surprised because the amount of the budget that goes to education is too low. I am Japanese and I am also concerned about the way of Japanese government uses the federal budget.
