Kasey's actions
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 60 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 60 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Community
Engage In Active Listening
I will practice actively listening to a friend, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, or someone who I may disagree with in at least 3 conversations.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided below and spend 60 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Transportation
Improve a Bus Stop
I will improve a bus stop in my neighborhood by posting the stop schedule, adding seating or shelter, adding art or flowers, picking up litter, or some other small improvement.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 15 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 15 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those around the world who produce my food in order to make better choices when I shop.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 5 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Kasey Leisso 11/13/2024 10:07 PMMy campus ecochallenge is going ok. I have completed each of the daily actions I have selected at least once. I have added multiple one-time actions to my dashboard, but I have not completed any of them yet. I have been consistently trying to do the 5 min shower task it isn't easy as I am not used to being fast when I take a shower. I have been able to change my schedule to try and fit in quick showers by not dedicating any more time than necessary.
