Natalie Lettow 11/12/2024 9:43 AMMy campus ecochallenge consists of volunteering 15 hours in my community, helping three people a day, powering down my computer when not using it for two or more hours, and spending an additional 30 minutes outside a day that would normally be spent in front of a screen. My ecochallenge is going well, and it's held me accountable to being more cautious about how I am negatively effecting our environment. It has helped me understand how easy it is to reduce your personal carbon footprint, and how all of my actions take barely any time or effort, outside of the volunteering. So far, I have saved 8.8 lbs of CO2, which doesn't seem like much to me, but if every human on the Earth saved 8.8 lbs of CO2 in 2 weeks, we could save approximately 1,830,400,000,000 lbs a year (that's in the trillions!) Something that has been challenging to me is the volunteering. I had signed up for 12 hours by this point, but all of it got cancelled because of storms, which interestingly enough, are likely heavy enough to cancel events because of climate change caused by humans. Nevertheless, I am enjoying my ecochallenge, and my other three actions are going great.
