I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.

Jersey Lobner 11/21/2024 1:06 PM1. How it was honestly challenging and new for you at this time
- this activity was challenging for me since it is hard to track how long my computer is on/off and remembering to power it down if I don't use it for more than 2 hours at a time
2. What conversations you had with others about it
- I didn't really have any conversations with others about it except for telling a classmate what our challenge was and why we chose it
3. Something specific you discovered from the action
- I discovered that sleep mode, restarting, and shutting down your computer are not the same thing and have different benefits. Specifically, shutting down your computer can help the overall health of the computer in the long run because of energy saving and battery enhancement.
4. How you learned at least 2 things relevant to the action in this class.
- Shutting down your computer when you are not using it significantly reduces your personal energy consumption
- Shutting down your computer may save money as you won't have to charge it as much, which uses electricity that you have to pay for, which contributes to CO2 emissions -
Jersey Lobner 11/12/2024 12:57 PMFor my ecochallenge, I chose to do "Power Down the Computer," in the "Energy" category. For this challenge, I am supposed to power down my computer if I am not using it for more than 2 hours at a time. So far, I have learned that shutting down, restarting, and sleep mode are not the same thing. Shutting your computer down can save energy and help performance, update your computer, and help the battery health and overall health of the computer. Sleep mode suspends all activities on the computer, and in the long run can use up battery. Restarting can resolve software issues, and frees up more memory, making the computer run faster overall. This challenge is going okay so far, however, it is challenging to remember to shut my computer down if I'm not using it for 2+ hours consecutively at a time.
