  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/24/2026 6:14 AM
One food choice I could make is being more intentional about reducing food waste. Planning meals, using leftovers, and buying only what I know I’ll eat helps ensure food isn’t thrown away. This choice respects the resources that go into producing food and encourages more mindful consumption, while also saving money and promoting healthier habits overall. Further utilizing local produce and farmers markets help ensure that those local businesses are doing well and I know more about where my produce is coming from. It also cuts out the middle man (grocery store).

We live fairly close to several produce stands as well as a local farm that does a lot of its own produce. I love buying from them because I really know where my produce is coming from.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/24/2026 6:05 AM
I’ve really enjoyed using my reflection and meditation time to focus on the positives in my life and the things I’m grateful for each day. At first, this practice was challenging—I often found myself caught up in everything going on around me. However, the more consistently I’ve done it, the more the small, meaningful moments stand out. I’m looking forward to continuing this practice and making it a regular part of my daily life.

That’s awesome to hear—honestly, I relate to how hard it can be at the start when your mind keeps drifting to everything else going on. It’s cool that you stuck with it long enough to notice those small, meaningful moments more. That shift really makes a difference. I like how you’re focusing on gratitude too—it seems like it helps reframe your whole day. I’m trying to get better at that myself, so it’s encouraging to hear how it’s worked for you.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
What kinds of discussions did you have, or are you hoping to have with friends about climate change?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/16/2026 7:52 AM
Inviting a fried to check their own carbon footprint led us to both understand more of where our choices and resources go. It also led to a great conversation on composting and how to get started with it in our community (curb side composting pick up just started!)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/16/2026 7:50 AM
I’m inspired to act on sustainable energy because I want to leave things better for my kids. Knowing that our energy choices impact the environment, our health, and future generations motivates me to support cleaner, more responsible solutions that make a real difference in everyday life. It also encourages me to teach my kids the importance of the choices we make and how those impact our footprint in the world and future.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
Why is it often difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/16/2026 7:46 AM
We live in an economy based on buying so much and when something breaks we just go get something new. The "keeping up the with Jones'" idea is incredibly accurate. What we often don't see is the results of throwing out the old for the new, especially when we don't make an effort to recycle or donate or resell. We get so focused on buying, we don't often see or understand what the waste aspect does to animals, other people, and places. So much of our landfills are full of items that could have been recycled, repurposed, or donated to someone else.

So accurate. A lot of people just do what’s easier for them at the moment instead of doing things that are smarter for themselves, others, and the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
What surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/16/2026 7:41 AM
I had no idea how much our diet contributed to a virtual water footprint. I grew up in an area under drought conditions and taking simple action to reduce water use is ingrained in my every day life. It was interesting to see how actions outside of home also impact my water footprint and what I can do to adjust those. I'll be looking into a grey water system and the feasibility of installing one. We'll also shoot to keep out watering to a minimum and look at getting a rain barrel to water our garden this summer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/16/2026 7:13 AM
Fruits and veggies are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants that help improve digestion, boost your immune system, and lower the risk of diseases like heart disease and diabetes. It's also incredibly helpful to your wallet as usually fruits and veggies are lower in costs. This week we tried dragon fruit and golden berries. We're really loved trying new fruits and are excited to see what we can incorporate on a regular basis.

    Nature
Are you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/15/2026 11:20 AM
I'm both a gardener (noobie) and house plant hoarder. I like learning about the different things each plant needs and what helps them to grow in the best environment. I'm looking forward to trying different soil types and mixes to help both my garden and my house plants this year.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/10/2026 6:08 AM
Our family loves to use straws, but we've made an effort to get reusable straws (usually metal if we can) so we're not contributing to more waste and using harmful plastics. Our other most commonly used single use item is plastic bags like zip lock. We're going to work on switching to reusable options that are better for us and the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
What most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint? What changes did you make or will you make?

    Lynette Lueders's avatar
    Lynette Lueders 4/08/2026 9:14 AM
We utilize so much more energy than we realize - leaving fans on, leaving small appliances plugged in, etc. This audit is going to become at least a yearly priority so our family is aware of what we're using and what may need to still be used. We've made an effort to make sure that things we're not using are unplugged like the toaster and the coffee pot etc. We're making a further effort to make sure lights are turned off, fans are off unless we're in the room, etc.

Totally agree—it's wild how much energy gets used without us even noticing. Sounds like your family is already making some great changes, and making the audit a yearly thing is a smart idea. Little habits like unplugging appliances and turning off lights really do add up!
