Ashiya's actions
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Community
Help Others
I will offer to help 1 person(s) who are in need each day.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 4 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Ashiya Norfleet 101 4/14/2025 10:28 AMWhat makes this hard is that I want different things to drink throughout the day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Ashiya Norfleet 101 4/09/2025 5:54 AMI could reuse the plastic to go boxes from some places and actually try to fix things instead of just throwing it away and buying new things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Ashiya Norfleet 101 4/09/2025 5:53 AMIt makes me feel good knowing how reducing paper makes me feel better mentally and how it makes the environment feel better physically. The next step I would take is taking my name off of unnecessary subscriptions so a bunch of random letters and magazines stop coming to my house. -
Ashiya Norfleet 101 4/09/2025 5:50 AMI think it's going pretty good because of all of the reusable water bottles on campus along with how filled the recycling bins are.
