Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Kaylee Patrenets 10/28/2024 2:05 PMI prefer bottled water in a water bottle, but knowing that I'm helping the environment keeps me going.-
Alex Matthews 10/28/2024 2:22 PMThat's awesome! Keep up the good work.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Kaylee Patrenets 10/28/2024 2:04 PMUse less water as well as not littering, because it can blow into water streams. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Kaylee Patrenets 10/20/2024 6:51 PMUsually, I tend to use 2-3 straws a day because I don't like drinking out of cups that don't have straws but I started using a reusable straw that I can carry around and reuse consistently.
