  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/21/2023 10:01 AM
It can support people in growing their own food for themselves and their communities. If everyone knows how to grow their own food supply they won’t need to rely on unhealthy, processed, unlocal food for nourishment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Buy Used Clothes
Do people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of "reduce" be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/17/2023 9:42 AM
I think that if you are able to, you should buy better quality clothes that will last you longer. Alternatively, you can just buy second-hand clothes.

Health Learn More about Food Apartheid
What can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/16/2023 9:56 AM
Less energy, more health issues, and sickness, therefore less ability to effectively learn or do their jobs. Having healthier people can help a community overcome its issues by having more people able to help with a problem.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Upgrade My Windows
How does improving your home's energy efficiency help you better live out your values?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/16/2023 6:34 AM
Having my house use less energy supports my value of taking care of the planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Meet My Neighbors
In what ways can you create more real and meaningful interactions with friends — or strangers — each week?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/16/2023 6:31 AM
One way I can make more meaningful interactions, is asking people questions about themselves.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/14/2023 9:10 AM
I noticed more things, like how people choose to decorate their houses.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Host A Watch Party
What did you learn about in the documentary you watched? How did it make you feel?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/14/2023 9:08 AM
My documentary was about tigers. I learned that India has over half the worlds tiger population.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/09/2023 10:03 AM
There are many events held often in the Asheville area that will collect things that can't just get put in your home recycling bin.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
In what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/09/2023 10:02 AM
Most waste sites are concentrated around cities. The places most impacted by this are the poorer communities that the waste sites are closer to.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Maya Pattanayak's avatar
    Maya Pattanayak 11/09/2023 8:50 AM
I spend time with my friends while I exercise.
