When walking, you're able to experience the environment rather than worrying about the other people. When driving, you aren't focused on the environment, only those around you. When walking, you hear the leaves blow in the wing, feel a leaf fall on your head, and nearly trip on the squirrel that decided to sit in your path. It's a much more immersive experience than simply driving is. And it's safer.
