Good job guys! Everyone did great.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/22/2025 7:22 PM
I regularly use plastic bags and takeout containers, especially when I am busy and on the go. Instead, I could start using my own reusable produce bags and a collapsible container for leftovers or takeout.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/22/2025 7:19 PM
Eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat helps me feel more energized and balanced, both physically and mentally. It also reduces demand for resource-intensive meat production, which can lessen greenhouse gas emissions and conserve water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/22/2025 5:00 PM
Practicing gratiute keeps me centered by allowing me to breath in the chaos surrounding me. It grounds me and allows me to think about the things and people that really matter to me, allowing for me to grow, and in a way, pass that on to those around me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/22/2025 4:57 PM
In my community, lower-income families are the most affected by environmental degradation and irresponsibility. They often live in areas closer to highways or industrial zones, where air and noise pollution is much worse than the better-off neighborhoods. Because of this, I see a multitude of health issues surfacing there, all while having fewer reasources to advocate for themselves.

Hi Emily, you're spot on that low-income families face the highest burden from environmental degradation. This sorta reminds me of Ruether's final chapter of her book where she says "the price of exploitation was borne by the exploited" and only when the true environmental cost are impacting the exploiters will something be done about it. We are in this unfortunate reality where marginalized people are impacted worse by the actions made by those at the top. I hope we can soon all realize our responsibility not only to each other, but to the earth, and reserve this damage.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/22/2025 4:51 PM
I plan to put the money I save from making more energy-efficient choices towards things that matter to me, like education, and supporting local businesses that share my own values. I find that even small savings can add up and I would like to reinvest that into experiences that reflect a more sustainable lifestyle.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
How do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/22/2025 4:48 PM

I find that environmental health, along with community health, and personal health are deeply connected as when the environment around me is clean and safe, like having access to fresh air, I feel better physically and mentally. I have seen first hand how community health shapes personal outcomes, and for me taking care of my health means being mindful of how my choices will have an impact.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/15/2025 6:53 AM
Yes, that statistic describes my own transportation habits, and prompts me to incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in my daily life but deciding to walk when my first thought is using a ridesharing service.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/15/2025 6:48 AM
The households in my small town mainly generate electricity. It impacts the environment, animals, and humans more positively than negatively compared to other areas because our town is very eco-conscious.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

    Emily Ross's avatar
    Emily Ross 4/15/2025 6:44 AM
At first, it was hard to implement this challenge as it was almost muscle memory for me to grab my phone or some sort of device. However, I decided to spend my time when I woke up reading instead.
