Alissa Sandoval 10/16/2024 2:35 PMI have had trouble with meeting my goal of sleeping an extra hour every night because I've had a lot of projects and tests, however, I have been incorporating power naps into my daily routine this week in order to get things done more efficiently. It's really important to let our bodies rest even if its just for a little while. Rest helps with mental cognition and performance, which are crucial! -
Alissa Sandoval 9/30/2024 3:14 PMI unfortunately didn't check in for the walk instead challenge for this Sunday because I just stayed home and rested, however I didn't use my car all day so even if I didn't walk the designated two miles, I still feel like I did some good for the environment by not driving a car all day :)! -
Alissa Sandoval 9/25/2024 10:22 AMThe hardest thing for me this week has been enjoying the sunrise/sunset because I have been extremely busy and sometimes it's hard ti catch the sunset. It is especially hard to catch the sunrise since I would have to wake up super early. I am trying to at least enjoy the sunset for a minimum of 10 minutes. -

Alissa Sandoval 9/21/2024 3:09 PMSome of the needs that water meets for me is thirst, it helps me cook, it helps me wash my clothes and clean my house, and it also helps me shower. Water also helps me stay hydrated and healthy, which helps me stay happy and active. -

What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Alissa Sandoval 9/21/2024 3:08 PMI believe the main barrier for using reusable bottles and tap water for many people is the accessibility they have to it. I know that when I go to Mexico with my family, we cannot drink tap water, and its very uncommon to see water fountains where you can easily refill your reusable water bottle, so plastic bottles are more commonly used. But that is a more world-scale issue, in a smaller-scale issue, a lot of people don't like the taste of tap water, and my simple solution to that is simply adding some flavoring, either store-bought or homemade such as lemons and berries. Thankfully, I have accessibility in the U.S. to drink tap water and to easily refill my reusable water bottle in many places, so keeping up this habit won't be a struggle, in fact, it is already a set part of my daily routine. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Alissa Sandoval 9/21/2024 3:03 PMThis statistic does describe my transportation habits, however, I usually drive more than four miles daily so walking to my destination is very unlikely because I would need endless hours to make it on time which just isn't realistic. I definitely try to walk as much as I can around my community, like when I go to the grocery store, or the gym, or to get coffee. -

Alissa Sandoval 9/21/2024 2:32 PMI believe creativity is a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity because many times, creativity can help us to create things out of other things. Creativity can also help us to have different perspectives and to find different ways of solving an issue. Simplicity can feel vast and fulfilling if we incorporate creativity into it. -

Alissa Sandoval 9/21/2024 2:27 PMWhat has helped me the most with my mindfulness practice is my sense of gratefulness. I try to practice mindfulness in many aspects of my life, not just as a meditation, and every time I realize how blessed I am, I feel extremely grateful and get a strong desire to just meditate and praise God for his love. I feel like mindfulness keeps me grounded by being a quiet moment in my busy mind, this doesn't mean my thoughts are completely silenced, simply that I focus my thoughts on God and on thanking him. -

Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Alissa Sandoval 9/21/2024 2:24 PMI think Berry's assertion is a beautiful way of describing the spirituality behind staring at a sunset or sunrise. I have always felt as though it is a religious ritual because every time I get to the watch the sunset or sunrise, I can really feel God's presence.
