Bethany's actions

Food

Follow a Whole Food Diet

Processed foods can be less nutritious for our bodies and take more energy and water to produce, which can create more waste, pollution, and may offer fewer health benefits. I will enjoy 1 meals per day free of processed foods.

DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Brush My Teeth Without Running Water

I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 1 containers out of the landfill each day.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Simplicity

Eat Mindfully without Distractions

I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Food

Plan Meals for the Week

I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.

COMPLETED 24
DAILY ACTIONS

Simplicity

Think About My Core Values

We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Food

Enjoy a Meatless Meal

Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals and/or 2 vegan meals each day.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottles from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Simplicity

Reflect on My Needs Versus Wants

I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Use a Reusable Mug

I will avoid sending 4 disposable cups to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Simplicity

Meditate or Create a Moment of Silence

I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 2 minutes each day to reflect on things important to me.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Find Local Recycling Depots

I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.

    Simplicity
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

Sometimes I feel the need to buy new clothes to stay up to date or because I get bored with my clothes. So a way that I've been trying to get creative is by pairing different things together in my wardrobe or pulling things from the back of my closet that I haven't worn in a while.
